Russia Using Crypto to Pay Saboteurs in Hybrid Attacks on EU, Polish Official Says
Russia's GRU military intelligence agency is leveraging cryptocurrencies to finance sabotage and cyberattacks across the European Union, according to Sławomir Cenckiewicz, head of Poland’s National Security Bureau. The payments, often made in crypto, enable Moscow to evade Western intelligence tracking and bypass financial sanctions.
Poland has tightened its crypto regulations in response, introducing new legislation with prison terms for violators. The move aims to close potential funding loopholes exploited by Russian agents. A network of GRU recruits uncovered in Poland last year was largely financed through cryptocurrency, signaling Moscow's continued reliance on such methods.
